YVR Taser Death the ONLY Story

The Sun's coverage of the Taser death at YVR is appropriate and first rate. Yes, the pictures belong on the front page.

And Stockwell Day is wrong to dismiss off hand a public enquiry.

And the RCMP are completely wrong to keep these 4 goons at work.

This is Rodney King revisited and the video that has now flown swiftly around the world demonstrates one of the strengths of the "global village."

If the RCMP and the government think that this story will wither and die in the coming few days, they are about to learn how sadly they are mistaken.

The Candian public would like to return to the days of having respect and trust for its police forces.

As long as these atrocities occur, that desire will be an unfulfilled ache.

NOTE: The video was posted below last night.

I was unable to see the video until it was posted on CKNW's site, the one listed here is also not functioning...big brother?

My thoughts are:
1st = thank you to the camera man for running the camera throughout the entire action, then for having the intestinal fortitude (GUTS) to take on the queens cowboys to get this vital video back out from their hands. I recommend that anyone with so much as a cell phone camera to point it at these gangsters whenever you see them about to do something. ALL OF US NEED TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

2nd = Where the HELL is/are these four rookies supervisor. They are all 22 years or younger. There is no way that they are experienced enough and that is why they came to the event in a gang! This is why they behaved the way that they did, they knew that their immediate supervisor was not present.

3rd = MASSIVE COVER UP! The first actions from the police were to say, we have to wait for the investigation to run its course. Then that this video was not going to be given back to the owner for public display. The airport was saying there are no cameras there! (what the *&*&@$&$%^ are we paying them so much $$$$$$$$ for security for since 9/11) The airport claims that they have 24 hour a day translators - where the &%@% were they!

4th = NOW they are saying that they want to have their own investigation. NO WAY should the RCMP ever again investigate the RCMP. An independant authority, answerable to the court ONLY must be established. This group must be by provincial only in establishment, with appeal to the Supreme Court. Never again should the power to investigate the officers whom act within the province be free from scrutiny by those legal authority in that province. This is part of the reason why the RCMP have a sense of 'bullet proof' attitude, they do not face sanction from any provincial authority.

5th = ALL media need to continue to hammer this issue relentlessly. I do not care how tired the public seems to become, the POWERS that be need to really really feel the heat on this issue.
DO NOT STOP HITTING THEM HARD ON THIS, otherwise they will get to his us hard without penalty later.

Let's take a brief look at the people & institutions that the Canadian public has lost faith in: Politicians, gov't bureaucrats, many religious leaders and bureaucracies, the Teachers Union and their leadership, Richmond firemen, public sector unions, and on and on.

I don't know about you, David, but I have long had great respect for police and the police institutions in Canada, esp. the RCMP.

But now we have the aftermath of the killing of a completely innocent new immigrant at YVR. I think what is troubling most Canadians beyond the obvious incompetence of the 4 officers, is the realization that we were told a complete pack of lies by the RCMP spin-meisters prior to the video being released.

Let's not forget something critically important: The RCMP had immediate access to that video. So they ABSOLUTELY KNEW what went on. They could have just stuck to "We need to let the investigation take its course" but instead they added comments about violent actions when the police arrived (not true) and about the officers trying to negotiate with the man (not true).

Is it any wonder why reporters become ultra-cynical when listening to any of the talking heads these days?

I've had a HUGE wake-up call and will NEVER again trust with any certainty what a police officer tells me. For this to happen to someone like ME, who has always trusted the police, is a great tragedy.

Those 4 officers all need to be charged with 2nd Degree Murder or Manslaughter and let the chips fall as they may in a court of law.

This is just the latest of many RCMP triumphs, all of which originate in the premise that absolute power corrupts absolutely.
We don’t want the RCMP in BC we want them out so we have our own police force that is accountable to the citizens through their MLA's. As it is now we have no accountability.
We also want swift charegs laid and we want to see these idiots working as bricklayers.

PelaLusa,

Interesting, that you have lost faith in the RCMP so recently. I lost that from them about 8 years ago when it became abundantly clear that BC was a rookie training ground.

How bad things have gotten is now really clear with these four, clearly new constables working the bummer shift late on saturday night.

Charging the 4 officers is a minor item, better would be to fry the entire E Division for this boondoggle and end the RCMPs monopoly on the sort of power exercise they have been on in BC since 1960.

No where else to post this to you David, but this video needs to go round the Canadian world ASAP.

Malalai Joya, 29, is the youngest member of the Afghan Parliament.

She comes out swinging against the sort of policy and the military actions led from the US. Actions and policy that CANADA is not only a party to but an active supporter of.

Our troops are being USED by the Northern Alliance to fight their civil war by PROXY.

This sort of imagery is what is needed to inform Canadians of what is really going on and to refute the blatant and harmful propaganda that the rest of Canadian media is propagating.
