Watch Out for the BCTF - They are Testy
Of course the BCTF is against any kind of testing.
We have had this argument for years.
I work at a college. I see kids term after term studying for exams. Do they need an army of grief counsellors to cope?
Driving to the grocery store is a contest. It shouldn't be. It needn't be. But more often than not it is.
We are tested every day in a thousand little ways.
What do the well-armored folks at the BCTF want to do - keep kids in swaddling clothes until they are 16 and truly unable to face life?
Not really. They just want to protect their tiny domain.

actually david, what they really want to protect are all those lazy crappy teachers that aren't worth their weight in cow manure. i've been teaching for over twenty years and i'll bet about 30-40% fall under that category. just wait until the gov't starts talking about bringing in merit pay for teachers like they did in new york city. they'll manage, somehow, to make it sound like a negative, and will shut down the system yet again. how did these clowns get so much power anyway?
The politician's credo: "Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies."
The BCTF's credo: "Ask the students we teach no questions and no one will ever know what they know or don't know."
Yew R sew rite.
On CKNW, Jon McComb just asked the BCTF whether it was appropriate for her, and not the Education Minister, to be making the decision about who writes what tests.
Her response [paraphrasing] : "In a democratic society, the BCTF has every right to be helping to make decisions." That's really rich, coming from a union that is anything but democratic. It is run by a little cabal more akin to the warlords in Afghanistan!!
