"Assassin Plotters Dismissed as Racist Meth-Heads."
Oh?
Well, that's easy enough to do...dismiss them with name-calling.
But that hardly eradicates the very real and deeply felt threat of violence and racism in an election that may put the first black man in the White House.
Has America grown so considerably since the murders of Jack Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King that the evil possibilities can be so casually waved away?
I fear not.

Obama is as much white as he is black.
Why label him a "black man" when he is clearly not? Just because he associates with blacks doesn't change his heritage.
Our immigration policies, for better or worse, have ensured that people like this man are the future of the USA and Canada. A large portion of the population in the next century will emerge as neither black no white, not asian or indian.
My children will be among them, and it's time we start thinking differently.
Threats of assassination, you are right, should be taken seriously. The number of people who consider Obama a "black" man is frighteningly high.
A very wise black man I know states unequivocally that Obama *is* indeed a black man. If you asked Barrack, he would state that he is a black man. It is his heritage, of which he is proud. You need to study black history.
I describe myself as a Canadian of English and Irish descent.
Hereditary derivation and lineage is important to me. It helped me know my family background and something of their experiences, struggles, where and how they lived, etc.
David, if you re-read what you've written, do you not see that you're hinting that anyone who is against Obama is a racist?
If I'm mistaken, I apologize, but it sure sounds like that.
Robert
So what does this "wise" black man consider Obama's white heritage, chopped liver?
It's not a subjective thing: the guy is half white. What he or anyone else may consider his racial identity to be is not only irrelevant, it's exactly the type of thinking that keeps on giving us racial misunderstanding all over the world.
You should marry someone from another "race" and have kids before you make such ill considered pronouncements.
What does black history have to do with what colour the guy's parent's are/were? Give me a break.
Robert,
I am not saying, I am not hinting, it has never been my intention to suggest that not voting for Obama makes you or anyone else a racist.
Millions will inexplicably vote for the other guy, that's their right and privilege.
I am saying that America has a core problem in racial differences and that there are people who will want to murder the first black presidential candidate.

Tell you what. Barrack Obama has a blog. Why don't you visit it and perhaps ask *him* about his race heritage, etc. He is a black man and nothing you say is going to change that.

The answer to your question is "No". Along with the usual "nutbars", racism is alive in well in some areas and with some residents of the USA. Barrack has had extensive security for quite some time now. Your point was clear. Hopefully all will go well with the upcoming election.

Hmm... doesn't sound much better on the flip side either...
David,
Thanks for responding. Good thing I added my apology proactively!
As to your belief that America has a core problem with racial differences, I wonder if this is really the case in the majority. Sure, anyone can pick out a few racist bozos from any society (and by the way, they're not all white!)
As you know, I have TONS of American friends. I can't think of one of them who would have a problem with Obama because of his racial heritage. I do know that many would have a problem with him because of his JellyFish like views and demeanor.
Anyway, thank goodness we won't personally have to worry about who to vote for in the U.S. Instead, we'll likely be having our own election up here. And guess who my MP is? None other than the "wonderful" Hedy Fry! I'll never vote for her but all too many twits in my riding always do. I will always vote though.

You have my deepest sympathies. We get to reside in Swipe Robinson's longtime riding. He's now well represented  by his pal Bill Siksay.
