Humpty Dumpty One
Here is a Letter to the Editor in today's Province. The writer refers to a recovered addict who completely and honestly understands addictions. The writer on the other hand is a theorist who knows nothing of where he speaks. The world is topsy-turvy.
True nature of addiction
The Province
Published: Monday, September 29, 2008Letter writer Barry Joneson and other Insite detractors don't understand the nature of addiction
You cannot force people to do something and unless society is willing to give police the power to do so, then harm reduction is the only thing that makes sense.
You can have all the treatment facilities you want, but addicts who don't want to make use of them will have only the streets to do their drugs

"Letter writer Barry Joneson ... (doesn't)understand the nature of addiction."
In stating such of a recovered addict, Mr Parker reveals more of his ignorance than anything else he could write.
It reminds me of the time quite a few years ago when a person sneeringly told me that I didn't have a clue what is was like to be disadvantaged(i.e. poor or marginalized).
After all, I live on the West side.
True, but since both of my parents died from addiction by the the time I was 21 I think I know something about disadvantaged.
I always hoped that things would changed in the treatment of addiction.
They have, it's over 30 years and it's the worst it's ever been.
