THE NEW DEMOCRACY
It is curiouser and curiouser.
Both the Vancouver Sun and the Globe & Mail reported on the possible conflict of interest in the case of Liberal adviser lobbying for the sale of government liquor warehouses to private companies.
That’s good.
That’s their job.
But neither story mentioned that Patrick Kinsella was hot in the exact middle of the same position only a few years ago in the matter of the sale of BC Rail - a small issue that got largely buried when Basi and Virk, at the last minute, pled out their corruption charges.
So...let me see if I am understanding any of this.
The man who got Gordon Campbell elected is the same man who got Christy Clark elected and he is the same man who was simultaneously representing private interests in major government sell-offs.
These amusements have led me to a new vision of democracy.
What has taken me so long?
Turns out that democracies are really all about the rich and powerful doing their best to imitate kings and knights errant and tyrants of old, all the while pretending to honor free votes and governments of the people, for the people and by the people, when in fact they despise “the people” and know that they, the elite, must run things so the boobs won’t mess it all up and by the way they can make a fair pile while they’re at it.
Oh.

yes....I just mentioned how weary I am of the arrogance in "their" belief that the "boobs" are happy being patted on the head.... "run along, everything will be fine"
I am confident an outsider observing a mixed room of our current crop of "elite" (politicians, lobbyists, fund managers, corporate management, MSM "journalists")...and "boobs" (that would be us)....would rule the elite are not as elite as they think they are...in stature, articulation, ethics, commonsense, pride of workmanship, reverence for BC, or even in outward appearance (well...ok...maybe not appearance in my case)
And this is yet another perfect example of why for the first time since I was able to legally vote (I'm now 47) I'm no longer voting in any Provincial or Federal elections. Instead, on voting days, I'll take a nice long walk on the seawall (rain or shine) rather than holding my nose in a polling station at the local high school. The word futile comes to mind when I think about choosing a political party and voting for them. I'm done - finished. And, as a famous line in a great REM song goes; "and I feel fine" !
Well David I still vote. It does often seem futile. The fact that the BCR sale and the LCB sale have so many similarities is almost bizare. I can see it now a headline from The Sun sometime in late 2015.
" RCMP investigation into LCB ends with guilty plea from Basi and Virk"
You nailed it, David.
What can I say, the sole role of government today in BC and Canada is to reward political friends and cronies.
