Encounter
I work at a college.
Today, at 1pm some students will hold a RALLY FOR GAZA.
Yesterday, I stopped at their table in the front hall and inquired about the event.
A tall, Anglo kid explained and handed me a little blue sheet of paper. The highlight on the handout was ISRAELI WAR CRIMES.
I asked this lad what that meant.
He said, "What would you call attacking schools with children?"
I asked, "What would you call more than 10,000 rockets fired by Hamas into Israeli towns over the past several years?"
He replied smartly, "Self defense."
I said so cleverly, and after all my years of study at Quick Quip School, "You're a fucking idiot! Your ignorance is appalling."
He smiled beatifically and offered, "Have a nice day."
I repaired to the Staff Lounge with murder in my heart.
And so it goes...

I was sorry when CKNW pushed you out the door.
I look forward to visiting your blog now that i know of it. Just a note that you can always tell the politically correct, typical lefty blog by the super moderated, comment locked down to registered users only. Keep it up.

Sad to have murder in your heart, isn't it?
Many years ago I had about 20 little kids at a birthday party.
They noticed the differences in colour (why is the kid this colour, why is that kid another ?)
They had figured out boys were different from girls but race and religion weren't even in their vocabulary.
They were happy with the explanation that people are all different (just like birds,cats,dogs.)
Too bad adults mess it up for them eventually.

I am an enthusiastic follower of your blog and I find your views on local, provincial and federal government policies very insightful.
But I cannot understand your blind spot with regards to the atrocities committed by the Israeli Govermnent.
The slaughter of innocent civilian Palestinian children and aid workers is
every bit as atrocious as any actions performed by the Nazis during the Holocaust. How could you possibly support Israel with a clear conscience?

The fact that you work at a college and can't even communicate with some "tall Anglo" reveals your true bias.

You managed to miss the oint again entirely.
My "true bias" is not a secret. I am a Jew and I support Israel. That utterly and unilaterally and uncritically. But I am a Jew and I support Israel.
The point of the college encounter story is to illustrate my own human failings and limitations, how passion and a lifetime of living a certain way gets in the way of having a reasonable conversation.
The encounter story was not to show a good guy and a bad guy.
It was to be clear about my own limitations, of which I am not especially proud.
But in your haste for condemnation, you missed all of that, didn't you?
Trouble is people , especially radicals of all stripes, never give an inch/cm on their personal biases. It show in their utterances. No matter what the folks of Gaza do they are right in some folks eyes. The accidental video of the Gaza gunmen using a UN labeled ambulance to move around is ok with them as well. Trouble is the gunmen of Hamas see all the deaths as a propaganda victory. The more children that die the better. Notice only the old women and children are featured prominently in Hamas videos. At funerals never a woman in site or sight. PR is everything.
