Definitions

I was on a movie set all day today.

As we all approached the day's work, an actress asked, "What? What happened?"

Several of us explained to her about The Massacre.

You see, her dog had been sick yesterday and she didn't see or hear or read the news.

We define ourselves also by what we notice...and what we ignore.

We define ourselves by our actions. Based on the scant information in your post, this actress is a person who cares very deeply about the health of her dog. So much so that she failed to tune in to the news. That seems like a very admirable quality in a pet owner. Your implication seems to be that she is an airhead who takes no interest in the world around her. So she did not read or hear about the massacre through the mass media. She learned about it less than 24 hours after it happened from her co-workers. Unworthy of comment, let alone judgement, except that one of those co-workers then went and wrote a undeniably disparaging commentary about her in his blog. Nice. We define ourselves by our actions.
