Quote & Foto of the Month

Two huge and tragic stories dominated the local news today - the multiple homicide in a Surrey high rise and the small aircraft crashing into a Richmond high rise.

From the first comes the quote of the month. Corporal Dale Carr of the RCMP said, "Generally, Surrey is a safe community, but at this time it is difficult for us to say who's safe and not safe."

From the second, comes the foto of the month. (Not this foto. Go to Page A5) Look, right there in the crowd gawking at the hole in the apartment building where the plane plowed into it is a man clutching his Starbucks coffee. God forbid, he should stare pointlessly at loss of human life without also eating or drinking. The Me Generation comes to the funeral.

What I find curious is that the Premier has announced that the folks who had enough money to buy into this tower in Richmond get 6 days free accommodation at local hotels while those poor folk on Pandora St. whose roof fell in because of a scurrilous landlord, get only 3 days. Perhaps the latter don't vote Liberal? Just checking.

Yes, such a good point about the people on Pandora. I also heard our Mayor make a comment when asked why something hadn't been done long ago about the slum landlord -- he said something to the effect that "we" have to balance the lack of affordable housing for these people against the condition of the residences. Personally I would rather live on the street than live in one of these apartments.

How does Sullivan spew such crap with a straight face.

. . . practiced in the art of deception you might say.
