Aha...

Yesterday, I asked in this space for your insights and ideas about the Harper government's refusal to let MDA sell it's Radarsat-2 to a Minnesota company.

Our good friend Jackie sent this NY Times story.

"Before the launch from Kazakhstan last December, the Canadian government cast it as an important element of its efforts to assert control of the Arctic. (The)United States and other countries reject Canada’s claim over the Northwest Passage, a potential shipping channel through the Arctic."

There's the rub; especially with the discovery that the geological formation of the shelf involved would indicate against canaduh's claim to the area.
This is and will be but one scene of many in an unfolding comic drama. Plenty o grist for plenty o mills.

If MDA goes out of business due to the governments ruling, it will be goodbye to Canada's space industry.

Sounds a tad like the fear tactics used on citizens south of the border....

With that much government $$$ provided towards the project, I think the government has the right to step in and stop the sale, even without the other concerns, which are good reasons. Canada isn't one of the states and it's good that our government acts in Canada's interest.
Let's hear it for leaders with a backbone and good sense!
