Immigration Department is a Black Hole

It may be true that the American convicted in the U.S. of a selling chemicals to make illegal drugs has committed no crime here in Canada.

But that doesn't automatically make him our best bet as an immigrant.

I have recently learned that there are presently 800,000 - absorb this - EIGHT HUNDRED THOUSAND - immigration cases in backlog!

One of my dearest friends has been waiting over two years to bring his partner to Canada. Both are highly skilled and law abiding first-class citizens.

He was advised last month that his case HAS NOT YET BEEN ASSIGNED TO A WORKER.

The immigration file is probably the worst in the federal government.

It is a great bleeding shame and disgrace.

I will never understand why Robert Dziekowski, who was tazered by the RCMP at Vancouver's airport, qualified as an immigrant, considering his prison record in Poland.
Canadian immigration did him no favors.

If the changes proposed by the Immigration Minister, who hides behind sunglasses in Parliament every day,are passed, then she will be able to cherry pick whomever comes into the country. This is a dangerous situation. The changes are included in the budget proposal. If the Liberals, NDP and the Bloc fail to block this then this Minister will have
unprecedented power. You're welcome David. And this time say thank you. You forgot that when I sent you all the info on the Radarsat sale. One of the nice things about you when you were that unspeakable radio station was that you always said "Good to hear from you" thanks for calling."

It still seems pretty easy for some, though. My Japanese girlfriend became a permanent resident of Canada in January, 2008, and it only took around 4 months to go from application form submission to acceptance. We chose the sponsorship route in which I opted to sponsor her as my common law partner.

I believe that family is given preference over those applying to immigrate for the first time.
The trouble with family reunification is Canada ends up with all the black sheep.
I thought immigration was much better before the eighties when there was no family reunification.

Indeed, well-mannered, appreciative to the callers and able to disagree without being disagreeable seems to have rendered Sir David incompatible with the Sick Dawg of Vancouver radio. I wonder how much of their precipitous drop in the ratings has been due to ...
