We'll do anything to Prevent Mob Violence. We'll kill to prevent mob violence.
The Olympics are a legitimate activity.
And so are public protests against them or almost anything else.
One letter writer in today's Sun noted the irony how the Olympic flame must be aggressively protected from any expressions of free speech.
The Sun's editorial declaring that the "political sideshow can't douse the Olympic spirit," smacks of naive and simplistic boosterism.

To think that politics and sport have ever been separate from the Olympics is naive. Any human activity is political whether it is small "p" or big "P" politics.
The IOC simply wants us to follow a simple Chinese tradition known as Kowtowing (叩頭; or 叩头; Kòu tóu; Kau tàuh, or Kē tóu, 磕頭).
Now, let's not hurt anyones feelings. Let's just kneel and bow with head to the floor. That's it...good...not try it again.
I see that Roots wants nothing to do with the Olympics.
Could this be the beginning of the end for corporate sponsorships of future Olympics?
As consumers, we can make our voice be heard, by not doing business with companies that are involved with any Olympics, and especially China's.

Naive and simplistic boosterism (or simple commercial interest - ad rev etc) has characterized the Vancouver media's coverage of all things Olympic since the games were "awarded".
At this point, imo, China could launch all-out invasions of Viet Nam, the Philippines, and Nepal without anyone in Vancouver's MSM suggesting it should result in "shattering the athlete's dreams" as one commentator put it.
I suppose the dreams of the Tibetans (like getting their country back) rank well down from dreams of glory and wealth.
This week I received a brochure for an elegant waterfront development by a company listed as an Olympic sponsor. Complete with logos. Guess who? Raving Rennie!
