The current drug thinking is nothing more than 'public' denial of the problem.

Drug addiction is a disease and we need treatment for the disease, but no it's just presently politically correct to let addicts shoot up in bureaucratic run 'shooting centres'.

I's pure madness to continue, but the politicians have washed their collective hands on this issue and the vicious 'addiction' circle continues on, and on, and on.

Can you explain to me in what way drug addiction is a disease?

I really fail to understand that concept.

Poor choice maybe, but disease?

Corey,

A description that I got about alcohol (and thus other addictive substances such as tobacco) is that it acts upon the body like an alergic irritant.

One way that the alergic response can take is deadly, other ways are more complex. Some involve a 'craving response', this is where the uber-eaters come from. It is why some people who may be alergic to certain foods (milk, wheat) cannot stop eating those foods, even though they are harming them in some way. It is thought that alcohol and tobacco may have similar responses in some people.

Whether it is actually true or not I cannot say, it does make a great excuse for not partaking in any of the substances though.

"I am alergic." Is a great response.
