Hi David

I don't know if you missed this or if you have posted enough of these articles for now. I really like it.
Also a big thank you to you for posting these articles, I think they are timely and important.
As Margaret says this is a complex issue. And she finds it very polarized. I think so long as that is the case we will not satisfactorily resolve our problems. It has been painfully clear that not much has helped the DTES and the introduction of Harm Reduction with no support of the other 3 pilars has plummetted the area into a worse condition than ever.
The American War on Drugs in the States has not been very successful either. It is sort of the other swing of the pendulum.
My experience is that under the drug personae of the addict is the person, a little more hurt and damaged for his drug experiences. But he is there and he can be recognized. Often times this is difficult and that is where you have to start taking away the supports that enable him to do drugs. Just like with an individual who has family and friends who enable him. It makes sense on a one and one basis and we are all indiviuals and that needs to be recognised by both sides.
As to legalization being a solution, does anyone think that will stop the BC Bud trade? Do people really know how big an industry that is? A lot of the Bud gets exported.
Anyway those are a few thoughts of mine, and I am really happy Margaret opened this can of worms for all of Canada to get involved in, not just the two sides one hears about in Vancouver. And mostly it is just one side, the HR supporters.
I have been having an ongoing conversation with my MLA John Yap in Richmond and he doesn't encourage my communication at all. He is definately a supporter of the current policy.
After what happened with Turning Point out here it is no big surprise. Sure hope his neighbour isn't running a meth lab.
Best to you and your readers, no matter which side of the issue they are on.

I posted all four of Margaret Wente's columns on drugs. They were first-rate.

Thank you very much for your thorough and thoughtful comments. Much appreciated.

Best wishes...
