Everywhere Boredom takes You

The CBC is spending scads of your tax dollars buying up full pages of papers across the nation to announce that they will now be showing those two great Canadian productions, "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy."

They are so lost and confused.

CBC Television should be, simply put, the Canadian PBS. It should show Canadian and World drama, comedy, music and public affairs programs.

It should not be showing the same old syndicated programs that run on every American station available. It is not their mandate.

Rather than being ashamed at their paucity of ideas and courage, they trumpet it in daily newspapers at taxpayers' expense.

Corruption has many guises.

The CBC is indeed lost, I rather watch a 30 year old Britcom, than the CBC. TV is so bad, that I just now receive a 'basic' service. Next year, I am seriously planning to put up an antenna!

I've been using rabbit ears since 1995 and have no regrets as long as I can get "Coronation Street".
Now that there is digital television available over the air, all the better.

To the person who is thinking of switching to an antenna next year...

All US stations are under the mandate to switch to digital signals only in 2009. So rabbit ears = no TV for you...which isn't necessarily a bad thing...

Not to fear, relatives in the USA are picking up a digital converter which is free if you apply for it down there.

In my neighbourhood, one clever chap has a US satellite dish and is feeding 6 households with cable.

The last time (years its been) I bothered to check what CBC Newsworld was offering, it was Canadiana like the documentary about Jacko's plastic surgery (heavy rotation apparently) and the one about all the girls who've played "Dorothy" at Disneyland.
Your tax dollars at work, folks.

Most of the new LCD TV's 19" and larger have built in digital (ATSC)tuners that can receive signals over the air.

While I agree with you Dave, I will admit - I am a fan of both of these shows. I certainly don't need to see them on CBC when they are available on so many other networks and stations.

Just a little tidbit about these two shows - Canadians CAN be a contestant on Jeopardy .... HOWEVER, they CANNOT be a contestant on Wheel of Fortune. I tried to apply to be a contestant on both shows. I had my dear husband take the online test for Jeopardy (he's the smart one between us). I tried to apply to "Wheel" - but, no luck. It is open to US Resident's ONLY.

In other words, our tax dollars are supporting these two American shows, but Canadian Residents can't even get some money back by being a blessed CONTESTANT on one of em.

Yesh!!
