Clearly Gaza

Under the title,

A setback for Israel, a calamity for the Palestinians

Margus Gee has written in this morning's Globe one of the single best things I have read about the Gaza disaster in recent weeks.

His argument is simple and direct and accurate.

Read it here.

Thank you for posting that. It was indeed a good piece - easy to understand for one such as I, who knows little of the history of the turmoil over there.

David,

I agree with the previous poster. I had forgotten (if indeed I even knew) the recent history in the region. That the Palestinians in Gaza have chosen to escalate their aggression after the Israeli withdrawl clearly indicates that a peaceful solution is not on their agenda.

My only reservation about the Israeli offensive is the use of cluster bombs. Such indiscriminate bombing is inconsistent with the targeted bombings of strategic targets. If there has been an Israeli explanation for these attacks, I haven't heard it. Unless it is assumed that all Palestinians are their mortal enemies. Too bad children on both sides can't be evacuated like kids were during the bombing of London.

I have learned that the Israel Defense Forces are not using cluster bombs, but white phosphorous flares and incendiary shells used for smoke screening.
These can cause serious burns and death but are not illegal in war.
Never the less, Israel is using a hammer to kill a fly.
Israel should send their special forces into Gaza to hunt down the Hamas terrorists.
