Long-Term Solutions for Haiti
The Haiti disaster is horrifying and the rescue and relief responses are encouraging.
But Haiti has long been a hideous nightmare.
Will the Have Nations now truly do what they can to help lift these poor souls into a new life?
I cannot write any more clearly about this necessity than the editorial writers have today in the Globe, or the guest columnists have in their piece.
Please read both. They are important and spot on.

The title "Long-Term Solutions for Haiti" seems to suggest death is the solution from the photograph.
I am sure that was not what you intended.
It is too bad our military is wasting their time and lives in Afghanistan, when they can be doing much more good in Haiti.
Haiti should be put under "protectorate" either by the United Nations or the U.S.
Not everybody feels compassion when they hear about the suffering of others. This is some of the nonsense that came out of the mouth of good old Pat Robertson. He had a similar take re Hurricane Katrina. If I actually believed in the devil, I could easily be persuaded it was Robertson.
The Haitians "were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III and whatever," Robertson said on his broadcast Wednesday. "And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, 'We will serve you if you will get us free from the French.' True story. And so, the devil said, 'OK, it's a deal.' "
