Thought you'd like to know they're actually Great Blue HERONS nesting in the Stanley Park Colony (map + photos). We're very fortunate to be able to see these majestic birds in such a public area, despite the inconvenience they present to nearby tennis players & pedestrians. Don't you think they look rather like pterodactyls when they're flying? Cheers, Cee

David, could you tell us what colour these birds are? If they are largely a bluish grey colour with thin backward-swept black plumes on their upper neck area then those will be great blue herons, as the previous poster mentioned. There has been quite a population of those herons in the Stanley Park area in the past, and they are indeed magnificent to watch. If they are mostly white then they will be sandhill cranes, which also nest in this area.
