Wheeeeeee...

Heaven.

Eden.

No Starbucks.

No Tim's.

No Big Mac.

Welcome to the tough, free-thinking pristine community of Tofino.

The local town council is drafting a bill outlawing these and other fast-food chains.

I love it.

Tofino, you rock!

The "free-thinking" community of Tofino is expanding government control of the economy and abrogating the individual's right to operate or patronize a legal business and you "love it" because it suits your personal tastes. Or is it the totalitarian aspect that appeals so much?
What if they went dry? No vino for you. How about they outlaw kosher because the local imam is offended. Would you be digging that?
Is it just a certain flavor of tyranny that blows your skirt up so?

I agree with the town council on this one.

If someone wants to operate a business in Tofino - they are most welcome to - an INDEPENDENT business.

The council is banning huge corporations so that small and medium sized business can actually continue to operate without being undercut and pushed out by the highly subsidized multi-nationals.

This bill is good for business (as small and medium sized businesses can operate and make a profit). It is also good for the people living and visiting in Tofino because it offers uniqueness and choice of establishments (not just Tims and Rotton Ronnies!!)

Good on Tofino - I wish that Vancouver had the balls to do the same!!

David, I believe that the hamlet of Qualicum on Vancouver Island has this Bylaw in place now.
Perhaps one of your Readers could verify this?
