YOU CAN WAIT
There's an odd tone to this morning's front page headline in The Sun.
DRUNK DRIVERS CAN FACE SIX-WEEK WAIT FOR REQUIRED IGNITION DEVICE.
Yes?
And?
If drunk drivers face a six YEAR wait or six DECADE wait to get back on the road, that is just fine with me.
There are few people in our midst who are more hateful, irresponsible and unworthy of our sympathies than the barbarians who drink and drive.
It is not possible to be alive on this earth and have missed the message.
Of course, drinking drivers know that what they are doing is mortally treacherously wrong.
But, scariest of all - THEY DON'T CARE.
Yet, one gets the feeling reading this piece that somehow we are supposed to feel that these non-citizens are being hard done by.
Huh?

Drunk drivers should lose their drivers licenses, forever. Innocent people and children, should not have to pay for these criminal offenses. I know two people, who were killed by drunk drivers. Even the Mountie who killed a young man, while drinking and driving, should have had his license revoked forever. This RCMP was in the incident, of the taser death at Vancouver airport.
Campbell was a drunk driver and so was Jane Thornthwaite, both of them should have had, their licenses revoked forever too. Only luck, prevented them from killing someone.
I hear you David - and totally agree. Sunday night a group of kids standing in front of a school here in Kamloops were hit by a drinking driver already under suspension, he now faces 12 charges. Three of them are back home, one is still in hospital with serious injuries. We can only hope they won't be life-changing. It's an absolute miracle none of them were killed at the scene.
The driver according to his neice (in the local paper) is an alcoholic whose son was killed in a drinking/driving related accident last year here in BC. One would think having gone through the pain of that kind of loss himself, he'd know better than to risk inflicting it on someone else!
Sadly, losing a drivers license for life makes no difference - it doesn't remove the knowledge or the will to drive...only the legality. If a person is willing to drink and drive, they are obviously not worried about the law, nor do they give a damn about other people. In cases like these only long term jail sentences (ten years or more) "might" change things.
