Sickening News

No. No. No. No. No.

This is the worst, most dreadful, most outrageously bad news I have read in a long, long time.

Crack pipe kits will be distributed for free to crackheads in Victoria, Nanaimo, Campbell Rive and Courtney by the Vancouver Island Health Authority.

NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.

A sick researcher says that this is cheap and it does no harm.

?????????

DOES NO HARM????

I just spent an hour yesterday with two very wonderful and brave young women who are into their 4th and 6th months of recovery.

Why not give them garbage to keep them enslaved to drugs, you misguided horrible pigs?

Has nobody in the official world ever heard of an EXIT STRATEGY?

You don't give dope fiends dope toys, you murderers; you give them a hand that says, "Come with me to The Clean Life."

Oh, but wait, I forgot.

That takes time and effort. Real work. Often tedious and repetitive.

And it's so much easier to give people garbage, even though it ensures that the people themselves will continue to be garbage.

I really, actually almost fell out of my chair this morning when I read this shit.

PLease, please, PLEASE write your MLA and beg the government to kill this terrible, terrible plan.

This comes from one Beneditk Fischer, Chief Researcher at the University of Victoria-based Centre for Addictions Research B.C.---- He couldn't say whether safer crack-use kits are the answer, but said such programs are cheap, do no harm and since "we have nothing better" should at least be retained until we have more answers. We have been spoken to from upon high David.

Hi David.

I wrote my MLA, Wally Oppal, minutes after I read your blog.

I can't believe that the BC Government, through the Health Authorities, is taking such a short-sighted plan against the issue of people with addictions to street drugs.

As for the sick researcher who says that this is "cheap" - what a load of nonsense. I would rather the BC Government spend the same amount of money on a treatment/counselling plan THAT WORKS for a small number of addicts than waste money on useless free crack kits.

Incidently, speaking of cheap - addicts have no trouble securing an old plastic soda bottle and a straw with which to make a crack pipe. It ain't rocket science and the tools for using crack can be dug out of the garbage can outside of any fast food joint. No need for special government issue crack kits.

The government is both wasting money AND enabling addictions.

Shameful.

David, I will write to falcon, gordo, waffling wally, and that peculiar health minister whose face is always twisted as if he is having trouble thinking, As a counselling psychologist I am well aware of the problems these drugs are, especially for young people. Did you know that the young'uns who become out of it on crystal meth are then housed in psychiatric wards where they are given anti-depressants which have suicide as one of the side effects?
These children are allowed out on day passes where they meet their friends, do more drugs, and return to the wards, stoned.
How Out of Control does this get?
Cheers.
