They are Geniuses. That's all there is to it. Geniuses.
It has always been a requirement of reading the popular press - read between the lines.
Never more so than these days.
The headline in today's Sun is all about the terrible situation of Skytrain Posse tasering the innocent.
All of that may be so, but that is not the story.
The story, as I have been insisting for about 10 years now, is this:
THE HONOR SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK. EVERY GOOD SUBWAY SYSTEM IN THE WORLD MAKES YOU PAY GOING IN AND, IF YOU'VE CHEATED, PAY TO GET OUT.
You wouldn't have to taser fare-evaders if most people payed fares. Imagine such a concept.
Now, after all these years, and all these excuses that ADDING turnstiles will be prohibitively expensive, Skyclunk is finally looking at installing turnstiles and a pay system.

The original plan for Skytrain included turnstiles and transit police. It was a political decision by the politicians NOT to include these two recommedations that created the present chaos. Everything the original planners said would happen without control happened in spades. The 'crime' train through Burnaby saw house break-ins, shoplifting and muggings come to areas that never had the problem before. It was a direct cost to business, homeowners and victims of robbery in and around the stations. Anyone who shops at Superstore on Rupert, Brentwood and Lougheed Malls knows exactly who is committing the crimes. You don't even need to see them you can actually smell them. Mall security plays 'tag' with these people trying to keep them moving. Sit at the entrance to the stations and watch these thieves get off with empty hockey bags and an hour later get back on with a full bag. These folks are the poors' version of a personal shopper. The political decision just transfered the cost of turnstiles to victims' insurance policies.
David, are you actually saying that in Kumbaya-land, there are some who lie, cheat, & steal?
Say it ain't so!
HAPPY PASSOVER I think that's what it is called. Anyway it starts tonight. What did you think of the meeting of the Rabbi and the Pope?
STAND AND DELIVER!
The tazer-tots are now alive and well, working on your local subway.
The turnstiles will not be put in.
The 'cost' will be deemed too high.
Meanwhile the tazer cattle prods will be issued liberally to all and sundry and they will be used to 'manage' the situation.
Prepare yourselves to see more, not less, of these 'crowd control' devices brought into general use.
