Philip Owen has been named to the Order of Canada.

No, that's debasement. Or...de basement.

Because he has travelled the world promoting the Four Pillars Delusion?

It's never been about four programs. It's always been about Harm Seduction, which has caused more harm than good.

On the other hand...

Dr. Henry Morgentaler was also named to the order and that has brought out the religious leaders in outrage.

I applaud Morgentaler and his courage and his belief in women.

David,

Further to Philip Owen and 3 toothpicks and a broken leg, I invite you to read this. Good to know that our Federal Health Minister is listening ... NOT!

I'm not the big fan of Morgentaler as you are. The issue of abortion appears to be much more of a dilemma for me than it does for you. Mostly because of the act of rape, I believe that there should be abortion. But what appears to have occurred in Western Society in the past few decades is a rampant use of abortion to cover up a lack of responsibility - by women and by men.

We all seem to acknowledge that once a baby comes out of the womb that it is alive. So, is it alive a month before that? 2 months? 3 months? 6 months?

What's deeply troubling to me the ultra-militant Pro-Choice activists who say that abortion at any point during a pregnancy is perfectly fine. I can never agree with that.

Rideau Hall appoints these people based on reccommendations of the Advisory Council for the Order which is chaired by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada.
Could this be the Liberals way of making the Conservatives look bad before their supporters?

I can't applaud Morgentaler, and my instinctive reaction to his receiving the Order of Canada was that it was wrong. I'm in agreement with much of what Barbara Kay wrote in the National Post.

Both the above comments are from men. Interesting.....and one presumes to know *why* all women have undergone abortions.

Thank you Henry. My body - my choice.

If men got pregnant what a different dialogue it would be.

Women were controlled and dictated to by men and religion for far too long. We are *not* going back.

my partner and i take turns cracking each other up imitating the responses of peeps like pelalusa. nevermind sharing opinions or not, they're always comically predictable. having a deeper male voice, i get the most yuks with vaguely indignant stentorian rants, but sometimes she can pull off bewildering, but gut-busting hysterical rants that would do ann coulter proud.great blog...please keep it up.

Yikes David, I didn't realize you had so many Anonymous cretins crawling out from underneath their rocks, spewing venom at me no less, and then crawling back.

I am not some kind of fundamentalist religious nut but I ask some serious questions about the morality of killing unborn children and get personally attacked rather than addressing the points I raised. Very adult of you, cretins.

Surely one can't deny that it's a complex issue; I have a difficult time feeling 100% about it either way. After all, we are talking about a life, many lives (not just a "fetus") and that gives me pause and stops me from sounding the rallying cry for abortion on demand even though I ultimately believe it is a woman's body and she must (should) have the final say. Until I had children abortion was much more of an abstract concept for me -- it is no longer abstract. Thankfully I was never confronted with a personal decision about abortion and the resulting aftermath of that decision, which I am sure is not an easy reality to come to terms with.

Commenters who ridicule those of us with opposing views diminish the effectiveness of their position.

"Yikes David, I didn't realize you had so many Anonymous cretins crawling out from underneath their rocks, spewing venom at me no less, and then crawling back."

That comment says much more about you pelalusa than it does about any anonymous posters to David's blog. This *is* David's blog, is it not? I am beginning to wonder.

i can post my name and address if you like, didn't think it was relevant. Intentions weren't venomous, come on! If we lose our sense of humour we're truly screwed, but again thanks for the laughs. We dream of someday belonging to kitsilano's mensa chapter, of which I am sure you are el presidente.
