Now compare the station in that video to the new stations being built for the Canada Line, and ask yourself why Translink has no more money.

A concrete platform and some bollards there, while here there is an elevated guideway, escalators, concrete stairs, elevators, roofs, glass walls and raised platforms.

Oh, but LRT obstructs the free flow of cars. We can't have that now, can we? Look how disastrously it turned out in the video! The train actually had to *gasp* WAIT at the intersection! A whole 12 seconds! And some cars might have been delayed!

The horror... the horror....

I strongly encourage all of your many readers to take a trip down to Portland and ride on their street-level trains for awhile. They make absolute sense and undoubtedly cost a lot less than our Rolls Royce system.

It would great if a journalist were to compare the km to km costs of SkyTrain vs. other systems. I think the differences would be shocking to Vancouverites.

I did find this, which suggests a 15-fold cost of SkyTrain over a streetcar based system.

Extremely wide Broadway seems perfect for a streetcar system but what current politician would be willing to let their legacy cost 15 times less?

Please remember everyone - Broadway had LRT/streetcar operating from about 1900 to 1950. It is just a matter of reinstating it!
