Well, it's good to know that at least somone in Canerda has his act together.

Too bad all those old gags about "cementing" good relationship with government and legit biz are all based on hard-edged reality.
At least, that appears to be the case in La Belle Province.

(I was appraoching Marine Drive on Cambie Street on Friday and I found myself, stopped at the traffic light, gazing idly at those so attractive cement pillars holding up the new Canada Line and thinking once again about the unavoidable fact - $13 Million/kilometre for LRT vs. $133 Million for SkyJoke. Which raised the age old question: Whose cousin got the cement contract?)
Some intrepid souls are even asking for an inquiry into ties between government, business and organized crime.
Antonio Nicaso, the author if several books on crooks, says, "I don't think in Canada there is political will or commitment to fight organized crime."
All three feral parties...oh, scusa me, federal parties...have refused comment.
Apparently, much of the crime involves bids on construction jobs, which curiously, mysteriously, always always end up being filled by Mafia-controlled companies.
Imagine.
But don't worry.

David,when the Port of Vancouver got rid of the Harbor Police we had to suspect that reason was more than economic. The Hells Angels and who knows how many other organized crime groups operate on the waterfront with no law enforcement at all. A couple of rent a cop security firms that do little more than traffic control.(they dont do that well either) Ive heard that perhaps the HA,with the help of numbered companies and legitimate buisness own one of the security firms.
Face it with the level of taxation at crippiling rates and the amount of government red tape ,who else beside the criminals can afford to do buisness.
As for the sky train cash. Why do we have three seperate systems. At least the first two can share the same tracks. The Canada line can not. So ask yourself,who owns the maintenance facilities? Maybe a criminal.
The middle class working people pay the majority of the cost of keeping these cities and provinces running because big buisness or big crime syndicates seldom pay taxes on the profits made on drugs, prostitution,extortion,and olympic games.
Thought I would toss in the games just to piss of the VANOC crooks. 30 million in bonus cash and its not tax payers money

David, I just heard on the news that a ploce chopper was shot down in a fire fight over Rio with bad guys.
This should make the IOC feel good about their choice. I cant remember the last time we had a police chopper shot out of the sky. We must have been awarded the games on our ability to grow and export pot.
Chicago didnt get the games so ergo that makes Chicago less friendly to organized crime than Gancouver and Rio.

Consider that for years the Liberals allowed a commercial crime squad in the RCMP but never passed sufficient legislation to put away the top dogs and when some crimes managed to qualify for prosecution they further spiked the attempt by keeping the prosecution services so understaffed by experienced lawyers that what crimes did get to court were thrown out for lack of speedy prosecution. The Conservatives are talking a better performance but will it happen?
