I believe you CAN'T teach ethics. Largely, if a person isn't mostly ethical, there's probably little hope that through teaching them they will become so.
I took an applied ethics course at Douglas College in the early 80s, with an instructor who declared himself a vegetarian, Buddhist pacifist.
For every dilemma posed, I responded with exactly the answer he wanted to hear, not with my own 'true' opinions.
My final grade?
"A".
