Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only 15 years. 8. During this same period, 31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy (including Winn-Dixie). 9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world. 10. David,

Wal-Mart is a private company that generates wealth.

You noted that 1.6 Million people work for Wal-Mart. Assuming that these are all Americans, that works out to about 0.533% of the overall U.S. population works for them.

Here in Canada, what percentage of the population works for some branch of the government?

Need I say more?

Robert

Absolutely.

Believe me, I was not criticising Wal-Mart. I just think the numbers are astonishing. We should all be so smart.

Interesting numbers. I goes to show you, if you let people make their own choice, they certainly will.

Wal-Mart has been good for the consumer, however many environmentalists hate Wal-Mart. Except the "greatest" environmentalist of them all, Al Gore.

I generally try to avoid purchasing goods made in China. Wal-Mart is chock full of them. I also try to support small, local retailers, as long as their prices aren't insanely expensive. Most people do not share such sentiments or if they do, they have a big nose ring, unwashed dreadlock laden hair and their first, middle, or last name is 'Sunshine'. Clearly not the crowd that I hang with!
