ENCOUNTER

David,

Almost EXACTLY the same thing happened to me in early April on my 5 hour flight from Houston back to Vancouver. In my case she was a "he" - a gigantic older man who sat one seat away from me, with no one in between.

He just wouldn't shut up the entire flight and even interrupted me when I had headphones on to watch the movie. Early on I did try to engage him in a conversation but it quickly became apparent that he didn't want to hear any dissenting opinions. So it wasn't so much as us talking with each other, as him talking to me. I could have been a fence post with my picture on it and it would have been exactly the same experience for him.

My problem with people like this is that they are extremely selfish. They often have no friends and it's clear to understand why.

Unfortunately for you, you weren't on the radio and didn't have the magic button to get rid of the caller!

I think you handled it well. Like you, my patience varies depending on my mood and energy.
