Lots of good stuff in this one, David. Let me comment about the sniffer dogs at the airports.
I can't say I'm surprised over even disappointed because I've long believed that airport security back then AND NOW succeeds based on random chance. I don't know if that is cynical or just realistic. But if someone really wants to blow up a plane I don't think it would be that difficult to do.
As we get closer to the Olympics, are we going to implement airport-like security on every ferry trip? If an actual attack occurs on a ferry, will we then? If so, will such security be guaranteed to stop all future attacks?
Complex questions to complex problems. There often are no simple answers.
